Expanding educational horizons, in collaboration with the related Department of Chemical Engineering and Industrial Ecology, in 2024 an educational and scientific program was launched to train PhDs in the specialty G2 “Environmental Protection Technologies” and a doctoral program in the specialty 21.06.01 “Environmental Safety” was opened. In 2025, the Certification Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine approved the decision to establish a specialized Academic Council for awarding doctoral degrees in the same specialty.
Today, the department continues to actively participate in methodological, scientific, and organizational work. Currently, the NTU “KhPI” repository contains over 1,000 publications by department staff. Over the past five years alone, 20 textbooks, teaching aids, and lecture notes have been published, including three in foreign languages, and more than 150 methodological guidelines. In 2024, the control and measurement laboratory was restructured into the research laboratory “Occupational Safety and Environmental Protection Technologies.” One of the main tasks of the laboratory is to carry out research work by employees, graduate students, and students on topics related to the scientific areas of the department, consulting with enterprises, training students during internships, etc.
Every year, under the guidance of faculty members, students participate in All-Ukrainian student competitions and contests for scientific works on occupational safety and environmental protection, life safety, industrial safety, and civil protection, in which they have repeatedly been winners. Over the past two years, our students have won international research competitions (held at Kremenchuk National University named M. Ostrogradsky and Odessa National Technological University).

The department actively cooperates with the European Association for Security (EAS) and is its collective member.
The issue of human safety is one of the most important in Europe and worldwide. Naturally, the department that teaches disciplines related to human safety has international connections and participates in the European process of sustainable development of countries. We have collaborated and continue to collaborate with universities in the US, Slovakia, Poland, and other countries. As part of the Erasmus international program, agreements have been signed and student exchanges have taken place with: the State University in Žilina (Slovakia, 2011); Polish universities in Olsztyn and Katowice (Poland, 2015); Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa (Poland, 2021); University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (Czech Republic, 2024).

The contribution of the department’s staff has been repeatedly recognized by both the university administration and the state. Thus, V. Berezutsky, V. Gorbenko, L. Vaskovets and I. In May 2025, the department of Occupational and environmental safety organized festive events at the university dedicated to World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The central event was a lecture-report on “Revolutionary approaches to occupational health and safety – the introduction of artificial intelligence and digitalization,” which was prepared by the department’s teachers and the scientific and technical library of the NTU “KhPI”.
The department of Occupational and Environmental Safety has sufficient scientific and educational potential to fulfill the tasks of training new engineering personnel and developing scientific activities assigned to it by the management of the polytechnic university.
