Industrial practice of students in the department of Life safety of NTU “KhPI”. Acquaintance with university security from the inside

Every year, according to the curriculum, in May, our 3rd year students have an internship. Oleksandr YANCHYK, associate professor of the department of OandES, who is responsible for this component of the educational process, is personally involved in organizing the training and work of our students.
This year, together with Oleg KOROTKOV, the head of the Life safety department of NTU “KhPI”, it was proposed to conduct such an internship in this particular department of the Polytechnic. That is why Kateryna RESHETNIAK, a third-year student with excellent grades, was recommended for an internship at the department of the Life safety of NTU “KhPI”.

This is a great opportunity for Kateryna to apply her theoretical knowledge in practice and to immerse herself in the work of one of the most important university services, which combines the areas of labor protection, civil protection and fire safety.
The main goal of the internship is to learn how to implement European norms, standards and values in occupational safety and health, as well as to create safe and healthy working conditions for all participants in the educational process while performing their duties. This is a key aspect that emphasizes the university’s commitment to improving safety systems in accordance with international best practices.
An important part is the fulfillment of an individual task received from the head of the practice, PhD, Yanchyk Oleksandr Hryhorovych.

The internship takes place under the guidance of experienced specialists of the Safety Department and directly under the personal supervision of the head of the Life safety department, Oleg Korotkov. All actions at the workplace are performed under constant supervision and taking into account the instructions and consultations of the employees of the Life safety department. This approach ensures a deep immersion in the specifics of the work and guarantees the correctness of all tasks.

During the internship, Kateryna not only observes and asks questions, but also takes an active part in the work processes. She gets to know the structure of the department, studies its functionality and internal processes. She works with the department’s documentation to understand how all these key areas of security are accounted for and controlled. This includes regulations, instructions, inspection reports, and much more.

In addition, it examines university infrastructure facilities that are directly related to security issues. Among them:
– Classrooms for training and instruction – for example, the simplest shelter under the rector’s building, where students and staff can gain the necessary knowledge on civil defense.

  • The shelter serves not only as a shelter, but also as a venue for important events at the national, regional, and municipal levels, such as NMT, EVI, Open Day, and others. Kateryna also took part in the inspection of the facility’s equipment, including checking the ventilation systems and other infrastructure, which gives an understanding of the importance of keeping these facilities in working order.
An internship at the Life safety department is an invaluable experience for a future specialist, which will allow her not only to deepen her knowledge in the field of safety, but also to understand the practical application of the skills acquired at the university, as well as to gain valuable experience in real-world conditions.

The staff of the department of Occupational and Environmental Safety is grateful to all employees of the Life safety department of NTU “KhPI” and personally to the head of this service, Oleg Korotkov, for their assistance in organizing and conducting this component of the educational process.
