The outstanding scientist, professor of NTU “KhPI” Lev Raskin turns 90 years old!

On June 14, 2025, Lev Raskin, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Software Engineering and Intellectual Management Technologies at the Educational and Research Institute of Computer Science and Information Technology, an outstanding scientist, talented teacher, and a man of great soul, turns 90 years old.
Lev Hryhorovych was born on June 14, 1935 in Kharkiv. In 1953, he graduated from high school with a gold medal, in the same year he won the mathematics competition and entered the Military Engineering Radio Engineering Academy (VIRTA), from which he graduated in 1958.
After graduation, Raskin worked as a radar engineer in a radio engineering regiment. In 1961, he entered the postgraduate program at VIRTA, where he defended his PhD thesis in military cybernetics in 1964. His scientific work was repeatedly recognized, including a diploma from the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education (1980) for the best scientific work.
For his service, Lev Hryhorovych was awarded government honors, including the Medal for Military Valor. In 1987, with the rank of colonel, he retired and continued his career at the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute. In 1989-2001, he headed the Department of Systems Analysis and Management, and since 1992 he has held the rank of professor. In 1994, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the problems of predicting the technical condition of complex systems.
In 2002, Professor Raskin moved to the Department of Economic Cybernetics and Marketing Management. In 2009, he headed the newly created Department of Computer Monitoring and Logistics, and since 2023 he has been working as a professor at the Department of Software Engineering and Intelligent Management Technologies of the Educational and Research Institute of Computer Science and Information Technology.
During his scientific career, Lev Hryhorovych has published 12 monographs and more than 250 scientific articles. He has trained a significant number of scientific and pedagogical staff: under his leadership, 10 doctoral dissertations (3 – in NTU “KhPI”) and more than 70 candidate dissertations (21 – in NTU “KPI”) were defended.
He is an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Technological Cybernetics of Ukraine, a member of the International Academy of Sciences, Technologies and Engineering, and is a member of the specialized academic council for the defense of doctoral dissertations at NTU “KhPI” and the editorial board of the collection “Bulletin of NTU ”KhPI”.
In 2015, Lev Grigorievich received the international award “Diploma Excellence” from the Oxford Scientific Union for solving the problem of P.L. Chebyshev, which was worked on by such prominent mathematicians as A.A. Markov and T. Stiltjes.
Professor Raskin’s research interests include optimization methods, operations research, artificial intelligence systems, probability theory, random processes, and statistical analysis. A significant part of his work is devoted to assessing the state of complex systems and developing expert systems, in particular for medical diagnostics.
Lev Hryhorovych is a member of the Academic Council of the Ukrainian Association “Computer Medicine”, the editorial board of the journal “Clinical Informatics and Telemedicine” and an active participant in the training of a new generation of specialists in information technology and mathematical modeling.
