The intelligent computer systems department research activities cut across different areas, namely:

1. Intelligent systems of data processing.

2. Simulations in intelligent systems.

3. Knowledge engineering methods.

4. Library automation.

5. Improving methods of teaching subjects related to applied linguistics.

6. Search and application of up-to-date information technologies in scientific researches.

7. Communiucation competence and teaching foreign language and scientific-technical translation.

In line with these research areas the department:

– conducts scientific workshops;

– performs research works on budgetary and commercial bases;

– trains postgraduate and doctoral students;

– has been holding theoretical and practical conference on itelligent systems and applied linguistics since March 2009, which has become annual.

The guidelines of the conference are as follows:

  • information technologies in linguistics;
  • corpus linguistics, languages research;
  • computer lexicography;
  • machine translation problems;
  • intellignt systems of language processing;
  • Linguistics in the Internet.

Within the scope of research activities, financially supported by the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports, the department carried out the following projects:

“Elaboration of mathematical models and methods of resolution of intelligent data processing tasks” (№ 0108U003926. Performance period: 01.01.2008 to 31.12.2010).

“Elaboration of models and methods for information retrieval, lexicographic and knowledge-oriented intelligence systems” (№ 0111U002258. Performance period: 01.01.2011 to 31.12.2013).

“Development of models and methods for identification of knowledge extraction processes in weakly structured information arrays” (№ 0117U004726. Performance period: 01.2017 to 12.2018).

The Interagency (The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and National Academy of Sciences) research center for intelligent systems and applied linguistics founded on the basis of the Intelligent Computer Systems Department has been actively running since September 2009.

The fields of Center activity are:

  1. Automated textual information processing.
  2. Modeling of natural language mechanisms.
  3. Development of linguistic and systems engineering fundamentals of lexical (terminology) database of the Ukrainian languages.
  4. Taining of the post-graduates (Candidates and Doctors of Sciences) in applied linguistics area; implementation of scientific achievement results in social practice and educational process.

In September 2009 the Intelligent Computer Systems Department, acting as a NTU “KhPI” representative, and Laboratory for Information Technologies in Education Systems and Computer Vision, Kharkiv National University of Radioelectronics, made a Collaboration agreement in scientific and technical area.

The joint conducting of researches by the laboratory and the Intelligent Computer Systems Department, NTU KhPI, is aimed at performing the works in the following areas:

  1. Analysis and revelation of computer-aided testing advantages for students’ knowledge objective assessment.
  2. Elaboration of tests for knowledge assessment as well as for paper approbation and application.
  3. Development and approbation of the testing system.
  4. Implementation of the proposed system to assess the knowledge accumulated at NTU “KhPI”.
