Scientific directions of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Cultural Studies and History of Science

2022–2025: “Development of Science, Education and Culture of Slobodsk Ukraine in the Second Half of the 19th – Early 21st Centuries.” (DR №0122U201252) (Scientific supervisor of the departmental research topic Prof. Tveritnykova O. E.)

Purpose of the study: Disclosure of the main directions of development of science, education and culture of Sloboda Ukraine in the second half of the 19th – early 21st centuries.

Object of the study: Sloboda Ukraine in the second half of the 19th – early 21st centuries. Subject of the study: cultural, educational, scientific development of Sloboda region; contribution of scientists of the Sloboda region to Ukrainian and world science and culture; historiography of the issue, development of Sloboda region today. Research work of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Culturology and History of Science of NTU “KhPI” “Development of Science, Education and Culture of Sloboda Ukraine in the second half of the 19th – early 21st centuries.” is aimed at revealing the main trends and patterns of development of the scientific, educational, and cultural potential of Sloboda Ukraine, determining the development potential for the future, identifying the contribution of leading scientists of Ukraine to world science and culture. The “humanization” of Ukrainian studies, the history of education, science, and culture within the framework of the research is understood as the return from oblivion of forgotten names of scientists and the assessment of their achievements in the context of the development of Sloboda and Ukraine as a whole. A separate direction of research is the establishment of losses of the scientific, educational, and cultural space of the Kharkiv region as a result of the Russian aggression in 2022.

The department’s staff focused its efforts on the implementation of the following tasks:

– The department involves graduate students in joint scientific work. They participate in the implementation of the department’s scientific and research work. During 2022–2025. The department is carrying out research work “Development of science, education and culture of Slobodsk Ukraine in the second half of the 19th – early 21st centuries” No. 0122U201252. An effective means of combining training with research work is the involvement of postgraduate students in scientific and practical conferences of NTU “KhPI” and other higher educational institutions.

– Training of scientific personnel. In 2024, the defense of the first postgraduate student of the ONP “History of Science and Ukrainian Studies” in the specialty 032 “History and Archaeology” Yaroslav Volodymyrovych Likholetov took place. The department employs a team of experienced scientists who can be involved in work in one-time specialized councils. In particular, three doctors of historical sciences (one of them is a part-time leading researcher at the M. T. Rylsky Institute of Art History, Folklore and Ethnology of the NAS of Ukraine – Prof. V. M. Sklyar) and eleven associate professors, candidates of historical sciences. The results of scientific activity are presented in the profiles of teachers in Google Scholar and on the department website https://web.kpi.kharkov.ua/ukin/vikladachi.

– Publication of scientific research results. The teachers of the department published 3 monographs, 7 articles in journals included in the Scopus scientometric database, 4 articles in journals included in the Index Coperniсus scientometric database, 1 article in a publication included in the Web of Science scientometric database. In professional publications of Ukraine, the teachers of the department published 5 articles.

– Participation in the organization and holding of scientific conferences. 11/29/2024 The work of the departmental section of the 5th International Scientific and Technical Conference “Automation, Electronics, Information and Measuring Technologies: Education, Science, Practice” was organized and carried out. – Supervision of students’ scientific and research work. One of the main areas of the department’s work is the preparation of students for participation in interuniversity, regional and international scientific conferences. During the annual International Scientific and Theoretical Conference of Students and Postgraduates “Ukraine and the World: Humanitarian and Technical Elite and Social Progress” dozens of speakers participate in the work of three departmental sections. The department has a scientific and research group “Historian” (co-chairs: Prof. Savchenko L.P., Assoc. Prof. Dvorkin I.V.) and a group “Culturologist”.

– International cooperation. The department’s teachers carry out active scientific cooperation with foreign organizations. During November 23-28, Prof. O.E. Tveritnykova and Assoc. Prof. M.V. Gutnyk took part in the final seminar on Open Educational Resources with Ukraine (2022-2024) at the Leibniz University in Hannover and TIB – Leibniz Information Center for Technology and Natural Sciences and the university library with the participation of representatives of partner universities from Kharkiv, Dnipro, Kyiv and Lviv. More than 290 video lecture modules were created, which were prepared within the framework of the OERwithUkraine project. Assoc. Prof. O. V. Haidamachuk took part in the international workshop “Un/uncertainties of Ukrainians: Mobility, Memories and Representations during War” (Berlin, Germany). Assoc. Prof. O.V. Haidamachuk, I.V. Dvorkin and S.S. Telukha participated in the workshop “Kharkiv under shelling” (Berlin, Germany).
