The Encyclopedia of the History of Ukraine is the most comprehensive contemporary reference encyclopedia on historical topics, and its ongoing updating is a key priority for the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Alongside articles on the history of Ukraine, it publishes general theoretical materials highlighting contemporary achievements in global historiography and political science, as well as information about notable individuals from around the world and the most influential international organizations.
The editorial board of the Encyclopedia of the History of Ukraine sought to ensure that the publication is both engaging and informative, incorporating the latest advancements in historical scholarship. Alongside articles on the history of Ukraine, it publishes general theoretical materials that highlight contemporary achievements in global historiography and political science, as well as information about prominent individuals from around the world and the most influential international organizations. The editorial board follows specific criteria in selecting contributors. Thus, when selecting historians, the primary criterion was not a formal one (e.g., holding a doctoral degree), but rather leadership in a specific field of historical science.
The Department of Ukrainian Studies, Cultural Studies, and History of Science is particularly pleased to announce that the new volume of the Encyclopedia of the History of Ukraine, published in 2025, includes a biographical entry on Volodymyr Mykolayovych Sklyar, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Professor in our department. This publication in a leading encyclopedic work on the history of Ukraine is yet another testament to Volodymyr Mykolayovych’s unique contribution to modern historical science, as well as a sign of respect and recognition of his professional achievements within the academic community.
