Presentation of the book on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the outstanding scientist and World War II veteran Viktor Dolbnia

On 8 May 2025, events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War of 1939-1945 were held at the National Technical University ‘Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute’. Representatives of the university administration, faculty, staff and students of Kharkiv Polytechnic honoured those who died in the war and laid flowers at the Memorial of Glory of NTU ‘KhPI’. Later, a memorial evening was organised in the university shelter, where the monograph ‘Professor Viktor Tymofiyovych Dolbnya. To the 100th anniversary of his birth’. The authors of the book were scientists and teachers of Kharkiv Polytechnic, students of the famous scientist and teacher of KhPI, a veteran of the Second World War.

The ceremony of commemoration of those who died in the Second World War of 1939-1945 was attended by the Rector of NTU ‘KhPI’ Yevhen Sokol, Vice-Rector of NTU ‘KhPI’ Oleksandr Trush, teachers, staff and students of the university. A solemn flower-laying ceremony was held at the Memorial of Glory, where the plates with the names of Kharkiv polytechnics who died during the Second World War for the sake of peaceful Ukraine are installed.

After that, a presentation of the monograph ‘Professor Viktor Tymofiiovych Dolbnia. To the 100th anniversary of his birth’. Its authors are teachers of NTU ‘KhPI’: Rector Professor Yevhen Sokol, Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Social and Humanitarian Technologies Professor Andrii Kipenskyi, Head of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Cultural Studies and History of Science Professor Olena Tveritnikova and Associate Professor of our department Vasyl Malikov. The book is dedicated to the outstanding scientist in the field of industrial electronics, participant of the Second World War, lifetime scholarship holder of the President of Ukraine, Honoured Worker of Higher Education of Ukraine, Honorary Doctor of NTU ‘KhPI’ Viktor Tymofiyovych Dolbna. For three quarters of a century, his fate was inextricably linked to Kharkiv Polytechnic until his death in August 2021. He joined the galaxy of prominent personalities, talented scientists, organisers of education and science that Kharkiv Polytechnic can be proud of throughout its 140-year history. The authors of the monograph reflect the veteran’s life and scientific and pedagogical career, describe the scientific school that Viktor Dolbnia founded, and highlight his significant contribution to the training of scientific personnel. The memoirs of Viktor Tymofiiovych’s colleagues and friends are also presented.

The teachers, staff and students of Kharkiv Polytechnic shared their memories of Professor Viktor Dolbnia with the audience: Rector Yevhen Sokol, Head of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Cultural Studies and History of Science of NTU ‘KhPI’ Professor Olena Tverytnykova, Director of the Museum of History of NTU ‘KhPI’ Anna Bystrichenko, Director of the Scientific and Technical Library of NTU ‘KhPI’ Yulia Glavcheva, Chairman of the Trade Union Committee of NTU ‘KhPI’ Anatoliy Fomin, Professor of the Department of Automated Electromechanical Systems of NTU ‘KhPI’ Volodymyr Klepikov, Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Social and Humanitarian Technologies of NTU ‘KhPI’ Andriy Kipenskyy, Associate Professor Valeriy Chernai, etc.

At the end of the event, everyone was able to receive a monograph about the outstanding scientist, educator and organiser of science of the National Technical University ‘KhPI’ Viktor Tymofiyovych Dolbnya.
