On 18 June 2025, Andrii Larin, Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Cultural Studies and History of Science at NTU ‘KhPI’, celebrates his 70th birthday. Andrii Oleksiiovych is a well-known scientist and teacher, he has great authority and respect among teachers and students. His research interests include the history of mechanics and mechanical engineering, the theory of mechanical vibrations, machine dynamics and vibration diagnostics. Professor Andrii Larin is the author of more than 220 scientific papers, including six monographs, two textbooks and eight manuals. His colleagues note his sincerity, humanity, love for his family and Ukraine. Andriy Larin raised his children to be true patriots: his two sons are now heroically defending our country from Russian invaders.
After graduating from the Faculty of Engineering and Physics of the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute in 1979, Andrey Larin devoted himself to scientific and pedagogical activities. His career is inextricably linked with the departments of Dynamics and Strength of Machines (now the Department of Mathematical Modelling and Intelligent Computing in Engineering) and Theoretical Mechanics (now the Department of Theoretical Mechanics and Materials Resistance) of Kharkiv Polytechnic, where he made a significant contribution to the development of methods of vibration diagnostics of complex technical systems. His work under the supervision of Professor L.I. Steinwolf and the defence of his PhD thesis in 1988 were important milestones on his professional path.
Professor Andriy Larin’s research interests range from the analysis of vibrations and dynamic strength to the development of vibration protection systems for power plants. The results of his research have been implemented in the manufacture of military and civilian equipment, in cooperation with specialists from the Kharkiv Malyshev Plant. Professor Andrii Larin is the author of more than 220 scientific papers, including six monographs, two textbooks and eight manuals. Since 2010, Andriy Oleksiyovych has been working at the Department of History of Science and Technology (now the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Cultural Studies and History of Science) of NTU ‘KhPI’, continuing to share his knowledge and deep understanding of the essence of technical creativity with young people. For many years, Professor Andrii Larin has been fond of military and historical miniatures.
Andrii Oleksiiovych Larin is a true patriot of KhPI and Ukraine. He has instilled in his children a sense of belonging to our peace-loving country and love for it.
