The participation of the teachers of the «Occupational Safety and Environmental Safety» department of NTU «KhPI» in science festivals, in particular, in International Day of Light as part of the UNESCO World Initiative, has already become traditional. This year, the commemoration of this event took place on May 24 at the Poltava Polytechnic College of NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute», which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.
It is the close cooperation of the teaching staff of NTU «KhPI» with the students of the said college and schoolchildren of Poltava city that gives impetus to career guidance work and the formation of the future student community of NTU «KhPI». The lecturers of NTU «KhPI» in particular, the «OSandOS» department, demonstrated branch scientific achievements and interesting phenomena, opening up to young people the world of the most modern professions and the great opportunities of science.
In the course of this event, teachers of the department E. Yascheritsin and N. Movmyga carried out career guidance work on the admission of applicants to the specialty 263 «Civil Security» of the «Occupational safety and health» educational program and consulting with issues of the entering company. It is clear that the more a young person knows about various types of production and professions, about working conditions, about where one can learn this or that specialty and work in the future, the more conscious will be his choice of future life path. Especially if this choice is related to a new profession, which is taught at the Department of Health and Safety under the educational program «Occupational safety and health».
In addition, during the event, schoolchildren and college students took part in a demonstration of the devices of the educational laboratory of the «Occupational and Environmental Safety» department for measuring the parameters of harmful and dangerous production factors, assessing the compliance of the measured values with the normative values in the premises and next to the college building.
The following devices were used for these demonstration studies: anemometers (measuring the speed of air movement) – wing digital «ВТМЕТЕР ВТ-816В» and cup «МС-13»; noise meter «Robotron» 00024» (production noise level); pyrometer «INFRARED THERMOMETER Mestek IR01C» (temperature and relative humidity), luxmeter U-116 (illumination), Electromagnetic Radiation Tester GM3120 (electric field strength (E) and magnetic induction (B)).
The following parameters were measured: noise level: from 54 dB(A) to 83 dB(A) indoors. Illumination from 45 lux indoors to 75-80 thousand lux outside. Temperature: 18-19 °С, humidity – 52%, speed of air movement outdoors: 0.3-0.6 m/s; indoors – 0.1 m/s; characteristics of electromagnetic radiation exceeded permissible limits only in the immediate vicinity of electrical equipment housings and electrical network lines.
It is worth noting that interest was shown not only by future applicants, but also by their parents, who followed the research with great interest and asked questions.
This year’s Science Festival, which was celebrated in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Poltava Polytechnic Vocational College of NTU «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute», gathered a lot of applicants, so we hope that we will meet many of them in the future as students of our university.
